Skill & Innovation Competition
As evident in the surviving monastic and royal monuments as well as the extended irrigation network, Sri Lanka has a proud history of very high skill base. Once again the country is marching towards such an era with the introduction of National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) framework which is winning recognition all over the world. A network of institutes has been established for promotion of quality training all over the country. With these reforms, opportunities are available for contemporary youth to acquire skills and obtain diploma and degree qualifications. These development has led many Asian and South Asian countries to benchmark our systems in their respective countries.

In order to bring the skills acquired at training centers and workplaces to the international level, an annual skills and innovation competition has been planned and is being implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skill Development in association with the institutions under its purview. Those who succeed in the competition will be given opportunities to participate in the World Skill Competition. Applications for 2012 skills competition are now called and the national winners will be sent to World Skills Competition - 2013 in Germany.
